Kosso is a very dense and hard wood that comes from west Africa. It has a very fine and even grain. It is a dense whorl wood.  This whorl is rim weighted for long spin time. At 1.5 oz, this spindle is a wonderful spinner and good for plying.

Groves of Kosso trees can be found on the savannahs of West Africa, but it is becoming increasingly rare and is sometimes cultivated. The tree grows to about 11 meters in height on average, and bears dark, scaly bark and yellow flowers. The fruits are winged pods. Kosso grows well on sunny, hot African plains with long dry seasons and frequent fires.
