Drop Spindle – Olivewood #410 – Maxi

Olivewood Drop Spindle – Maxi- #410

• 1.7 oz
• 3 in dia whorl
• 10 1/2 in Maple shaft

This beautiful drop spindle has a  whorl turned from Olivewood, a very dense and hard wood that comes from Europe and eastern Africa. The whorl is rim weighted for long spin time. At 1.7 oz, this spindle is good for spinning and plying all types of fibers. I consider Olivewood as a perfect drop spindle wood. It is beautiful, dense and takes details very well.

Because of the fruit’s economic importance, healthy, cultivated Olive trees aren’t felled for lumber; availability is generally limited to pruned branches, trimmings, and diseased/storm damaged orchard trees. Short lumber, turning squares, and burls are occasionally available from wild trees. Prices are very high.
